About

Janet Cooper Haas, RPR

Janet Cooper Haas has been happily guarding the record since 1996. Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, the independent Registered Professional Reporter maintains long-lasting relationships with court reporting agencies across the Tar Heel State and throughout the United States.

Janet is a proud member of the National Court Reporters Association, NCRA’s Ethics First Initiative and the North Carolina Court Reporters Association. Janet received her Bachelor of Science in Communications in 1993, and she is a former Charlotte Observer columnist.

In addition to “writing” on her steno machine, the freelance journalist enjoys telling inspiring stories of people and nonprofit organizations making a difference in her community. Her articles have been published in an array of national and regional magazines, newspapers and websites.

Janet puts her communications experience to work for various nonprofit organizations, utilizing her writing and public relations skills and assisting with fundraising, community-awareness initiatives and event planning.

The Early Days

Janet began her court reporting career in Miami, Florida, with The Laws Group, founded by the then-president of the National Court Reporters Association. While in court reporting school at Sheridan Technical Institute in 1995, she balanced the ins and outs of transcript production, scheduling, collections and customer service with shadowing a working reporter in the courtroom, at hearings and in depositions.

After graduation in 1996, Janet became a working reporter with The Laws Group, covering Miami-Dade Criminal Court, the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office, the Juvenile Services Department, civil depositions and hearings.

More About Janet

In 1997, she struck out on her own as an independent deposition reporter, when she relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina. Janet is happily married to her high school sweetheart, and together they are raising their two busy boys.

Off the record:  Janet’s favorite workdays are ones where she trades in her tailored monkey suit and heels for a comfortable pair of pajamas and socks. No Skype or Facetime available on jammie days!
